Obama McCain and Saddleback

On Saturaday August 16th, Barak Obama and John McCain will visit Saddleback Church for a Civil Forum Debate with Rick Warren.

I can’t help but wonder what is going on. As a Black Conservative this is incredible to me. A few years back all we heard about was separation of church and state. Churches need to stay out the political arena, and just focus on poverty or other social injustices.

Now it seems as if churchs are so deeply involved in the political system they are becoming third rail if you will. although I applaud Rick Warren for his efforts, I am still a little concerned about his motives.

Let’s be clear, I am not against churches being involved in the process. The black church has always been involved in the political process as this was the only place africian-americans were allowed to congregate without suspicion. There they could discuss current events and organize community activities, and even find out who they should vote for.

I am looking forward to this debate, as it has been reported that pastors around the country have been asked to submit questions. I am hoping for more substance and really tough questions directed to both candidates.  Rick Warren is a well known pastor and author and his bringing his creds  to this debate, so it will be interesting to see how it all plays out and the ratings it will received since most of the major media outlets will be broadcasting this event.

What is even more interesting is that on the same day Ausust 16th; there is another event that has the propensity to impact Evangical Christians around the world.THE CALL DC
